Windows 11 brings various helpful features, but is it worth updating to?

Windows 11 started its rollout last October 5, 2021, but not everyone will have the update yet. It depends on the age of the device, hardware and other factors. Microsoft said the company expects “all eligible devices to be offered the free upgrade to Windows 11 by mid-2022.”. However, you’ll automatically receive a notification when Windows 11 is available for you.

This blog is to help you decide whether you will update your system or not. Besides its new themes and design, what does Windows 11 offer to us?

Better productivity

Windows 11 has simplified the design for better productivity of its users. They put the Start menu at the bottom center of the screen so that you can easily find the things you need. They eliminate the hassle of clicking through minimized tabs and then picking up where you left off. Instead, you can have multiple desktops which allow you to organize multiple workspaces in one screen. For example, you can make a desktop for personal use, for work, and for entertainment in one screen. You can also have multiple desktops in Windows 10, but the options are too limited.

Easier way to connect with people

There’s no problem whether the person you are connecting to doesn’t use the Teams app. Windows 11 introduced a new feature called “invite anyone”. It allows you to instantly connect with your loved ones through chat, text, voice or video no matter what platform or device they are using.

Gaming upgrades

If you are a gamer, Windows 11 is perfect for you. They provide the latest gaming technology. Colors and graphics are enhanced for a better visual experience on PC or console. Xbox Game Pass is included in Windows 11. Over 100 high-quality games are available for you.

More personalized widgets

Widget is a quick way to access a certain news or information. This includes useful information like calendar, weather, stock prices, latest news, and such. You can customize the list and manage the interest on your widget. If you want to access your widget, just click the widget icon (rectangular box with blue and white split screen) on the taskbar. If you are using a touchscreen device, you may swipe from the left.

Brings more apps

The Microsoft Store brings Android apps hosted on the Amazon App Store. They welcome more apps that were not available on Windows ever before. Windows said that running Android apps and games will feel familiar, effortless, and integrated – just as you would expect. You can easily run these apps side-by-side with the help of the new Snap Layouts feature, pin them to your Start menu or Taskbar, and interact with them via mouse, touch, or pen input. Apps from the Store have been tested for your safety and security.

Better security

Windows 11 is not just about the design. It is also about security. New built-in security technologies were added to protect you from malware. It has the ability to recognize whether the device has enabled security features or not. A device must first be proven secured before getting access to the data. In addition, devices that are updated to Windows 11 come with a TPM 2.0 chip which has encryption keys behind the hardware. Updating software gives you confidence that your device is secure.

So, is Windows 11 worth updating to?

The answer is yes, if you are going to buy a new computer. Windows 11 requires your computer to have things like Secure Boot, UEFI Updates, and Hypervisor Code Integrity — which are included in newer computers. If you have an older CPU and you updated to Windows 11, then you may be out of luck. Some experienced poor Wi-Fi connections and saw problems with File Explorer. However, updating your system is still up to you. You can do your own research for further details.
